Halo 4: Spartan Ops
Spartan Ops was an episodic mini-campaign comprised of a mix of re-imagined main campaign spaces and completely new areas, and was meant to further the narrative of Halo 4 beyond what players experienced as Master Chief. in this 4-player focused mode, players would take their own custom Spartan they made in Multiplayer PVP, and play as them with friends across 50 missions with all new gameplay content to uncover the fate of Requiem, the inverted planet the main campaign takes place on.
I was responsible for creating and maintaining 8 of the 50 missions shipped for Spartan Ops, and took over an additional 4 from other designers. Many of these missions took place on already existing bsp spaces from campaign, though we were allowed to move things around and change them as needed (to a certain point, of course - we were always wary of wake for other teams!). Proper production on Spartan Ops began around December of 2011, with a tight deadline to deliver all 50 missions - around a year - and the first 25 had to be ready by Halo 4’s launch date of November 6, 2012. After the first 25, we enlisted the help of an outside studio (Digital Extremes) to get around half of the second batch of 25 missions to a place somewhere between first playable and content complete. The 343 Spartan Ops team then took over the content, made changes as necessary, and brought those missions to shipping quality.
