Destiny: Rise of Iron
Rise of Iron was the last expansion for the original Destiny, and was the first released product I ever worked on for Bungie. With a production cycle of a little under a year, we really had to bunker down and establish our goals and ideas early.
I was the designer on the third campaign mission activity, called “The Plaguelands”. This mission is the first proper mission located in the new Plaguelands location on the Earth Destination of Destiny, which featured numerous new areas and activities. From the beginning, I knew I wanted the final fight to culminate in a bombastic, high explosives battle against a powerful opponent. Additionally, working with narrative and art, we knew we wanted the mission to end atop a fortified bunker, which the Landmark and location was already in progress. Working with our combatants team, we came up with a fantastic variant of our already successful Spider Tank enemy that played off of the themes of the new enemy faction, The SIVA. While the landmarks of the Plaguelands were already making progress, the actual play space and encounter spaces were not. I spent significant time shaping and reshaping the spaces specific to my Mission based on feedback and playtesting to make them as good as can be.
